Free website health check
How healthy is your website?
Enter your website address and we’ll test your homepage the way Google does: how fast it loads on a phone, how easy it is to use, SEO basics and best practices. If it’s built on WordPress, we’ll also check for out-of-date software and warning signs of hacking. It takes about 30 seconds, and you’ll see the results straight away.
What we check
Six things that
matter most.
Each one affects how many visitors stay, how Google ranks you, or how safe your site is.
Speed on a phone
How long your homepage takes to appear on a mid-range phone, the way Google measures it.
SEO basics
Titles, descriptions, links and whether search engines can read the page properly.
Accessibility
Whether everyone can read and use the site, including people using screen readers.
Best practices
Secure connections, browser errors and outdated code that can cause problems.
WordPress and plugins
Whether WordPress, plugins and PHP look out of date from the outside.
Warning signs
Visible signs that a site may have been hacked, such as injected spam.
Reading your results
What the scores actually mean.
Scores are a guide, not a grade. Here’s how to read them.
90 or more is good
Each score is out of 100. Google treats 90 and above as good, 50 to 89 as needing work, and under 50 as poor. The Speed score is the one that moves most between runs, because it depends on the network and server at that moment, so a few points either way is normal.
Speed matters most on phones
We test the way Google does: a mid-range phone on mobile data. Most visitors to a business website are on their phone, and slow pages lose people before they’ve seen anything. The “main content appears” time is the one to watch, and under 2.5 seconds is good.
Not everything needs fixing
Some suggestions make a big difference and some barely matter. That’s where we can help: we’ll look at your results properly and tell you which fixes are worth doing, which aren’t, and roughly what they’d involve.
From the outside only
The check only sees what any visitor can see. It can’t look inside your site, so it won’t catch everything. If something looks wrong, we’ll confirm it properly before recommending anything. Sites on our managed WordPress hosting are kept updated and monitored for you.

One Plan
Since switching my hosting to Control Shift well over two years ago now, my site’s been running smoothly without any of the usual headaches. Frequently asked
Health check questions
Common questions about the free health check.
Is it really free?
Yes. There’s no cost and no email needed to see your results. If you’d like us to go through them with you, you can leave your details, and that’s free too.
Why did my score change when I ran it again?
The Speed score depends on network and server conditions at that moment, so it moves a few points between runs. The other scores are much steadier.
Does it work for sites that aren't on WordPress?
Yes. The speed, accessibility, best practices and SEO scores work for any website. The WordPress checks only apply to WordPress sites.
Do you store my results?
We keep a record of the check so we can help if you ask us to. We don’t share it, and we won’t add you to any mailing list.
Can you fix what it finds?
Usually, yes. Many speed and security issues are fixed by moving to managed WordPress hosting, and larger problems may suit a website refresh. We’ll tell you plainly what’s worth doing.
